Mint 13 installation advice

Mint 13 looks very impressive. I Know I could download and run it from disk without installing it but assuming I wish to install it what's the best way ?
I Have currently got Mint 11 & Windows 7 on my hard drive.
What I want to do is leave the Windows Partition alone as it contains a number of files & programs, When I install Mint 13 will it give me the option of keeping windows and Mint 11 on my computer ?
If I get that option will it allow me to delete Mint 11 but leave windows 7 or would I be better advised to keep both ? or would I be better doing nothing as everything is working fine at present ?

Re: Mint 13 installation advice

You can do any of the those.
When you boot the cd/dvd and chose install it will offer to:-
Install side by side - Mint 11, Mint 13 & Win
Remove M11 and update to M13
Another manual option.
If you installed your M11 with a separate /home then chose the last then chose your Mint 11 install and use it as / and format it, then choose your /home partition and chose the ext4 (if that is what it was) but DON'T Tick FORMAT.
I am quite impressed with the Cinnamon version.

Re: Mint 13 installation advice

If you have M12 will it:-
offer to remove M12 (without touching a separate /home) and do an update-install of M13?
I have no intention of trying to run M13 before the final release date though.

Oops - I was thinking that was October!  Grin
But,
Quote
Important info:
Boot hangs on systems with b43 wireless cards
    64-bit only for Mint4win
Windows popping behind the installer in MATE edition
    Desktop icons in Cinnamon

Sounds pretty bad! - although I see there are fixes posted for any significant problems.
Including how to change the name of the home icon to MyHome - why would you want to do that????  Crazy  Crazy
In the Ubuntu notes:-

Upgrades
Aptitude does not work on 64-bit systems without disabling multiarch in /etc/dpkg/dpkg.cfg.d/multiarch . (831768)
If you have i386 packages installed on an amd64 system in Ubuntu 11.10, it is strongly recommended that you install the versions of apt and dpkg from oneiric-updates before upgrading. A number of multiarch-affecting upgrade issues have been fixed in those versions. (850264, 902603)

What's that all about - it sounds a bit essential!

Oui, j'ai compris.  Mais porquoi un autre nom et porquoi en Francais? J'aime "Axis of Evil" mieux.

Re: Mint 13 installation advice

My previous incarnation was as an anagram of "axis of evil".
Having run out of anagrams, I applied a Frenchification to the anagram.
Hence "Un renard, c'est le Mal".
Would "L'Axe du Mal" be better?

Re: Mint 13 installation advice

When you install it a nice extension is the "Classic Menu" one.
Screeny attached.

Re: Mint 13 installation advice

That menu looks really horrible.
I tried (and liked) Mint 12's version of Cinnamon - but was forced to switch to the "Extensions" version
because they had forgotten to allow switching between multiple users on one PC.
Both versions had proper menu's though - click on picture attached.  Smiley

Re: Mint 13 installation advice

See I find the new G3 menu horrible. I prefer the old Mint menu that I have been using for 4+ years, I can find things quickly and easily, the new ICON no text menu is YUCK!
