Yea but looks like it is still syncing. My md5 was wrong so will have to re-get it later.

Re: Mint 12 RC up!

The md5 is good (I even checked it) on the 64 bit version.
It's quite good (i.e. it has menus), but it is rather easy to fall into "nasty mode" if you press the infinity icon ("eight lieing sideways").
There's a few bits of Unity style rubbish that sometimes appear on small areas of the screen;
I would like to have movable panels (I like to keep them near each other).
There is an option to configure a firewall and block domains in the main menu - which seems a strange place to put them.
Hopefully the alacarte program can still be used to edit menus?
The option to display log files looks unworkable - it's got no log file names; just filters built with regexps; but perhaps it could be fixed with a bit of ingenuity.
The crappy style of scroll bars has been copied - but I'm hoping that
sudo apt-get remove overlay-scrollbar
or similar will put proper scrollbars back.
The supplied theme doesn't highlight menu bars - but at least there is no global menu bar!
Nasty mode lists ALL applications on the screen (of which I shall have a lot more than are shown on the Gnome3 (?) screenshot).
I shall definitely replace Ubuntu with Lisa when the live version comes out.

BTW Wireless works fine on an Atheros card and Mint appears to recognise my nVidia card.
I had trouble instructing the machine to restart - so I :-
a) pressed CTRL+ALT+F1
b) entered
sudo shutdown -r now
This worked fine - even instructed me to remove the DVD
Those seem to be most of the bad bits - otherwise it's mostly up to the standard of how Ubuntu used to be before it turned to the dark side.  Smiley

Thats strange as in the release notes and on my installed version they aren't installed  Undecided
I dislike the locking of the panels, I prefer my menu at the top and my awm at the bottom with the notification area on it. Don't yet know if I can install awn.
My version in my virtualbox was running MATE on the live dvd, so I installed on to my main pc, (in a spare partition, using my same /home but with *-12 as my username) install took a long time (relatively  :D) about 20 min (format an 11Gb partition and install)
On boot there was an update to the update-manager & about 90Mb of new files. My NV card was found and jockey started and it installed the Nvidia driver (I have just rebooted into my M11 setup to make sure everything is still ok here)
I had <struggle> to find the keyboard layout setting to change the launchers the way I like, now everything is in one place - no preferences tab - will take a bit of getting used to, although I may try MATE as well.
Few niggles in the rc, apt-add-repo adds distro as lisa rather than oneric (to be fixed in full version) and a couple of others I haven't found yet.

I am not sure if I will be moving from M11 to M12 yet, needs more playing than the 10-15 min so far.

Re: Mint 12 RC up!

Ok quite a few broken ppa's. Handbrake is a major pita to install, you need a new ppa & an old libnotify1 file to get it installed.
I also seem to have quite a few gnome3 crashes/restarts (screen flashes).
Still can't get rid of the top panel don't like that at all.  Tongue

Re: Mint 12 RC up!

I'll play with the live DVD a bit longer - but I think it's better than the current Ubuntu.

Goes without saying  Cheesy
Have awn installed and docked to the lhs at the mo. V.strange it is having it there.
The updates seem a bit strange there is i386 & 64bit listed in synaptic, must be a bug in the rc. Overall it is better than the LMDE version I tried, in that at least I can install awn/get-iplyayer/ffmpeg without any hassle & my nvidia driver installed straight away  Smiley
Back in M11 at the mo as I need an xp vm to test something  Lips_are_sealed

Re: Mint 12 RC up!

How do I move panels in Mint 12?
The fixed layout gets a bit annoying.  Cheesy

Haven't found away yet. I think it is a feature ( ::)) of Gnome3, you can't add or remove anything either, right click does nowt.

Interesting blog, most of it is a diatribe against Ubuntu's unutty interface, but that's ok 'cause we all hate it  Wink
Now off to have a play with MATE.

Re: Mint 12 RC up!

I don't suppose there is a Mint utility which will automatically install all relevant Ubuntu packages is there?
Note:-
Quote
sudo dpkg --get-selections "*" > my_packages.txt
will give you a list of the status of the packages you have installed.

Re: Mint 12 RC up!

Mint-backup used/will do this.
OK got my M12 desktop nearly like I want it. (see attached)
To get rid of the bottom menu use the Menu/other/advanced settings & switch off bottom menu. Still cant get rid of the notification icons  Kiss
Got awn running on the bottom with the gnome2 type menu in it. (attachment 2)
Can't get the clock to go digital for some reason though.
