Migrating Windows to Another SSD

Hi guys

The 'C' drive on my main PC is a 500GB SSD and I'm looking to replace it with a larger capacity one.

What I need is a tried and trusted 1 stop migration tool.

All suggestions gratefully received.

@Strat  If you have a 2nd slot on your main pc... no need to do that... just put the new one in the same slot ... and the "old" one in the 2nd slot..

Otherwise... get a USB caddy... put the "new" ssd in the caddy..

Use  Clonezilla  to "Clone" the original ssd to the new larger ssd.

It is "fairly straightforward"   just make sure you know which ssd is which , when the questions need answers !! .

It will take about 30 to 45 mins to clone  

Note... Clonezilla does not like cloning to a "smaller size" drive.. so you will be ok going FROM the 500 to a larger size drive.

Further to @shutter 's post rather than a caddy just get an USB to SATA adapter cable, they are cheaper and will power the SSD from the USB connector. If you have USB3 capability then get a USB3 adapter and it will do it in no timr.

I use Acronis True Image and their cloning tool works faultlessly. I believe that you can get a free tial of this software so you can use a professional tool to do the job for nothing.

I'll second @Baldrick1's recommendation for Acronis @Strat. IMSMR you can get it as a bootable image so you can first burn it to CD then boot the PC with it, connect your device and do your cloning and the job is done.

Bear in mind that cloning software is often included when you buy an SSD, so that’s something to look for if you’ll need to clone an old drive.

If you have a second slot available for a SSD why not use both.

Existing drive for system related files.

New drive for data.
