Microsoft updates.

Bearing in mind the expected Win 8.1 update and the final XP patch on "patch Tuesday" (= today) can anyone say whether we get our Tuesday updates on Wednesdays due to the time difference between UK and Silicon Valley?

Non-authouritive answer.
I've usually found they are available sometime between 1800-2000, but our move forward a couple of weeks ago will probably have changed that.

I read that they are released at 1000 pacific western time, 18.00 here .
I assume that pc's on automatic update check the server at random times to try to spread the load on the servers !!!.

Thanks for the responses.  I checked at about 18.30 and got a number of updates for Win XP which I suppose may be the last. There were also a number of updates for 8.1 but these didn't include the promised system update. I guess we shall have to wait for that.

My win 7 computer has just had 7 updates but win8.1 laptop has had none and the update checker is just searching for updates for last 10 mins

Looks like M$ has gone back to pre XP days when it takes forever to locate update(s) if applicable at the time of checking

looks like i have a problem . on checking update history there is no updates for last month
did a update troubleshooter and got an error code  windowsupdate_dt000 or 80080008 .
did a search on windows and came back no results

Just successfully updated my Windows 8 laptop and my Windows 7 desktop.

after using troubleshooter twice and rebooting twice it actually worked and i got 6 updates installed

my pc started downloading the win 8.1 update about 19:30 and it was about 800M - and took about 40 minutes.
Only a couple of restarts and it was all done.
AS I had previously set 8.1 to boot to the desktop and simplified my Start page which i rarely use - there really aren't many differences immediately obvious. Just the seatch logo on the start page.
I'm no MS fan and think they have handled the WIn 8 very badly - seemingly ignoring the miliions of desktop uses . But at least now it seems to be workable and not too far removed from Win 7 for most tasks, and there are some nice improvements in the File Manager.

I got it yesterday too.  Like Ma108 it probably won't make much difference to me especially as I have been using Classic Shell since the early days.

In Windows System for your Windows 8.1 PC has the logo changed or it there an added tag ling to say you have Windows 8.1 Update 1
Trying to download it myself. I have read that it was withdrawn from corporate download sites due an error with the update service.
I have the added power icon and search icon on the metro page but not the extra options on the right click menu and no mention of the update in my system pages.
