I have been removing a number of programs that came loaded on my computer which I do not want and with some, after running uninstall, I am told that not all parts have been removed and I should do this manually - how? Also, some programs I have removed still show in program lists but won't open etc.

Manual could just mean deleting the relevant directories
If by "program lists" you mean the start menu then you can right click and delete the shortcuts

you might also find there are still folders in your Program Files and Program Data, (under C drive) they should be empty, check to make sure, so you can delete them

Sorry - that's what I meant - I shouldn't still be referring to "directories"

Running Ccleaner should help to get rid of broken registry links.
