Mail Merge in LibreOffice

As a long time user of Office 2003 and finding that mail merge sort of works as I would expect I decided to try LibreOffice Writer and  I have to say it was an absolute disaster.

Being rather old I initially assumed that it was down to me until I Googled for help and realised that it just is a mess and OpenOffice is no better

Has anyone tried this http://www.ssuitesoft.com/mailmergemaster.htm

EDIT tried it and it is easy to use but too simple so not really an option

Re: Mail Merge in LibreOffice

LibreOffice was not produced by Microsoft.

Try http://blog.worldlabel.com/2012/mail-merge-address-labels-in-the-excellent-free-libreoffice.html

(Produced some time ago).

Re: Mail Merge in LibreOffice

what the devil has that got to do with it -  note that the Microsoft one is much more flexible and user friendly although you wouldn't know that would you

that explanation misses the difficult bit - trying to select the fields you actually want to use not the predefined ones which can't easily be changed

this is where I started http://davidmburke.com/2011/08/10/mail-merge-in-libreoffice/

Re: Mail Merge in LibreOffice

Out of all the mail merge I have tried W2003 was by far the best. Even so I got fed up with using it for address labels and bought a Dyno Label Writer.

Re: Mail Merge in LibreOffice

Funny you say that.. because i still use W2003 and have been having a right old time trying to get some mailmerge issues working.

Can anyone tell me how on earth I am supposed to get a mergefield to flaming work inside an if / then / else statement?

As you can see I keep trying.. and I keep trying various things with the braces and quotes.. but nothing works. I just get this kinda thing:

Re: Mail Merge in LibreOffice

Never mind.. I was typing in the fields into the if then else statement... apparently you must point and click from the list of fields instead of typing.

Silly me... who'd have thought identical text wouldn't be identical..
