MY old PC (XP) blew up so I have a new PC with Vista. Installed my trusty MS Money 2001 successfully. I rescued data from the old PC but when I try to load (or restore a back up) Money asks for a password. I have no idea what it is and doubt if I ever used a password.
So I cannot access about 8 years of my records
I have tried all sorts of things to recover the data - : any brilliant ideas would be welcome!

You could try running it in XP compatible mode
http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-vista/microsoft-money-2001/4635.html same problem
Edit - further digging apparently the database is automatically password protected - this program may help http://3d2f.com/programs/3-082-advanced-money-password-recovery-download.shtml
There are other programs which do the same thing

Shutter's suggestion is unlikely to overcome the password protection problem. It would give you access to the files on your hard drive but if you tried to boot to the version of XP stored on the old hard drive it would most probably crash the computer.

You might find this link http://www.ehow.com/how_4519462_recover-corrupt-microsoft-money-file.html useful.
At 'step16' there are a number of links to possible ways for password recovery which may be worth further investigation.
