Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

I'm using the Billion 7800N wireless router and would value some help to resolve a problem...
At irregular intervals, the connection to the Internet is dropped, and the only way I've found to 'correct' the problem is to re-start the router, In all other respects, the kit works like a dream, but sometimes the Internet connection will hold for a week or more, and at times it drops within a few hours our so after a rest.
All help will be much appreciated!

See the two lights labelled 1 and 2 in the pic attached....   when the line drops what exactly happens to these? Do they both go dark or just the "Internet" one?

Re: Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

The wireless light??  Noooo...  is it just the "Internet" light that goes out? If so, it's the bit from the exchange to Plusnet that's dropping and so it's more likely to be a BT problem than a router problem. Have you spoken to support?

Re: Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

The DSL light that stays on, the Internet light goes dark... I'll call Plus Net now to see if they can trace an issue.
Many thanks for your help, much appreciated,

Re: Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

I had some issues with dropping PPP sessions on my 7800N but since upgrading to firmware version 1.06b it has been ok.

Re: Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

Actually, come to think of it, I did have a problem with the PPP dropping quite frequently up to about 14 days ago, especially at night, but it's gone away now!  Smiley
For info...   release notes...   don't think anything on this affects the connection...  although item 10 might be relevant.
Release Notes for 7800N (1.06b)
1> Correct ADSL sync rate information with SNMP; the value is same as WEB page. Also, show 0 instead of the
last sync up information while ADSL is down.
2> Support more TR069 objects (TR069 version)
3> Fix issue whereby dhcp server will stop if the “Fixed Host” name contains space character
4> Fix issue whereby too many P2P sessions might slow down normal traffic
5> Fix some IPsec issue (7800GZ)
6> Fix issue whereby the 3G usage page might not be correct while HTTP port is non-80 (7800GZ)
7> Add Static DNS
8> Add IPsec NAT Traversal (7800GZ)
9> Allow 0.0.0.0 as the remote part field on the IPsec page (7800GZ)
10> Fix issue whereby IPsec Domain Name on the IPsec can’t reconnect
11> Fix inconsistent hostname value with SNMP and WEB page
12> Fix issuev whereby 3G usage doesn't work correctly if user manually disconnects/connects the data call while
the usage quota almost reaches the limit. (7800GZ)
13> Fix issue whereby WEB logout doesn't work under some circumstances.

Re: Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

I've had recent issues with my line dropping... but it has been the entire line dropping (DSL Sync not PPP)
This i've put down to BT doing lots of work in my area most of the time.
A PPP drop could also be Plusnet having to disconnect users due to maintenance or problems with gateways.. e.g. Service Status

i wish billion did a newletter though... i didnt realise there was a new firmware  Huh - just updated  Cheesy

Re: Losing Internet connection with Billion 7800N

I have had the same problem with losing my internet connection on the Billion 7800n; The DSL light  stays on - the Internet light goes dark.
This has happened twice when I am away from home - so I lost all access to my network from the outside world.
Version 1.06a improved things but it still happens.  Rebooting the router immediately restores the connection but that is no good when I am not at home.
This seems to be a Billion problem - surely if the connection is lost, the router should try to reinstate it!

Depends, it could be Plusnet's fault (or them load balancing) if the network is unbalanced. The router *should* reinstate it, but it all depends on how the connection was dropped.
