Linux & Google Earth.

Has anyone on the forum using Linux managed to get Google Earth fully working without errors.

From the official repositories it gets 3.5 marks out of 5 and the Linux forums suggest others have had various problems, so does anyone use it and have you got it fully working.

Re: Linux & Google Earth.

The web browser version works for basic maps & limited views of potential house purchases.

Usually good enough for investigating the number of yellow lines on the road.

Re: Linux & Google Earth.

I'm running 7.1.8.3036 (the later versions didn't run) with Opensuse 13.2 and that requires 2 starts to get going (ever since I loaded then removed a later version). The only usage problem I see is that it does not exit "streetview" cleanly and requires a repeat "search" to overcome that.

I'm about to setup opensuse 42.3 when I can try 7.3.0.3830 (or later).

Re: Linux & Google Earth.

Thanks for the responses.

@VileReynard  can you enlarge on the ' Web browser version'

Do you just mean go on to the Google Earth link, download it and install direct to Linux ( Mint 18.3)  or do you mean install from the repository ?

Thanks

Re: Linux & Google Earth.

I have no problems with https://www.google.co.uk/maps/ in Firefox.

Don't need to install anything.

I fail to understand your comment .

I downloaded.

Clicked install

Then ran the program

Pray tell me how that is any different to how it is done in Windows .

On Windows you download from an uncertified source.

You appear to have downloaded from a website before checking whether the website could be trusted.

Has a green padlock, SSL certificate, it's good.

The repository you download from could also be spoofed but you're not worried about that are you!

Nope, not aimed at you so don't go getting all upset about it and telling us to "row" up lol.

You're new here so before you start giving out the orders, why don't you just chill for a bit eh?

What you don't realise is that on this forum we have a long standing tradition. Linux users poke fun at Windows users. Windows users poke back at Linux users. It's all done as a bit of fun and nothing more.

vilerenayard/fox/foxofdoom/evilfoxofdoom/all_the_others often likes to make things slightly interesting though hence my reply to him but even he knows that this is not any sort of war as you suggest.
