Linux Versions....Which one?

Hi folks
Used the latest Ubuntu of a couple of machines (just for fun), but am thinking of installing a version permanently on my desktop PC. The trouble is now that i have started looking there are SO many versions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Linux Mint,openSUS) to name but a few!!
Are they all pretty similar or would 1 stand out as being more user friendly than the rest?
Any thoughs?

which desktop do you prefer?  if kde, i would recommend pclinuxos as being rock solid stable and pretty, good range of packages and great help forum.

KDE & GNOME are the two major window styles.
You can run most apps designed for KDE in GNOME and vice versa.

The best thing to do is download a couple and try them, I use Ubuntu 9.04 and Mint Gloria, both using Gnome as the desktop, I did try kde but it was a bit to vista like for me 
Even if you install Ubuntu and decide you want to try kde, then you can just install it and choose when you login what you want to use.
For ease of use go for Mint (gnome) or pclinuxos (kde)

I would approach your question somewhat differently, as what ever the default Desktop Environment (KDE3/Gnome/XFCE/KDE4/LXDE) and whether there is an alternate windoow manager available (openbox/blackbox/iceWM/windowmaker etc) if you dont like the look and feel you can change to another and try that within the distro of your choice.
I would say look at how easy a particular distro makes it to actually set things up and get you on line using your favorite web browser... look at whats behind the curtain, and find the one that has the wizard..
Personally I would whole heartedly recommend PCLinuxOS, its what I have used for my main install for a few years now (5 and creeping on). I have yet to find a distro that works as well out of the box for me and all the PC's in the house (even my wife and kids use PCLinuxOS on their machines)

I am typing this whilst using the latest Kubuntu, although i have also downloaded Mint & PClinuxOS ISO files, which i will try soon!
First impressions are how much better it feels/looks than tired old windows, not tried to install or do anything yet though!!!
