Linux Mint 17.2 Released

blog announcement
I've switched to Cinnamon from Mate for this release. Somethings are still needing fixed, like wine apps associations not being incorporated into the system, but there are workarounds.
Not sure if I will stay with it though, I found Mate very easy to use, Cinnamon takes a bit of tweaking, or maybe just exploring.
One good thing, I now have the embedded terminal back  Cheesy

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

I'm currently running LM 17 mate version. I downloaded 17.2 cinnamon last night and had a spin. Nice to see some old classics back in the wallpapers. Not sure If I want to use it yet though. I'm quite happy using what I have at the minute. Mate 17.2 will be getting released too right? New update manager next week? so you can upgrade through that if you stick with your current set up.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

Yep upgrades will be released via the upgrade-manager, nowt to do but wait till they appear.
I tried Cinnamon in a new partition and quite liked it, when I tried an in-situ upgrade (wipe / keep /home), I found I couldn't install wine, even though it worked fine in the other one, so renamed my home folder then installed again, moving over things as I need them.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

I I've been using the Cinnamon versions of Mint since it was first released. Never liked Mate (but was never a fan of Gnome, so not surprising)
Haven't updated to 17.2 yet.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

I was the opposite, couldn't get on with Cinnamon when it was first released, all this expo nonsense etc.
Been running Mate for past couple of years, but then I used to use Gnome 2.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

I'm sticking with LMDE (Linux Mint Debian Edition) - Cinnamon variety.
Virtually no Ubuntu contamination.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

I tried to love LMDE, I installed it on my server, but the hassles of getting even something simple like a vnc server running killed it for me.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

Well, it's basically Debian + a better GUI.  Cheesy
I've never had any problems (but I've never tried VNC).  Cheesy

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

When I used to run my laptop as my "server" I kept the lid shut, and VNC'ed in to it, I had major issues getting VNC server running on the thing. One of the reasons I went back to LM from LMDE.
I wanted to love it with rolling updates etc, but after about 3 months I gave up.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

Fortunately I have never needed to do anything complicated on Mint 17 so it meets my needs just fine
From earlier posts it appears users will get the opportunity to upgrade to 17.2 through the update manager  but there are some links to posts that provide instructions on how to update to 17.2
Must admit I am a bit puzzled about that, why would you do that if it can be done through the update manager instead of the terminal ?

Speed, wanting the latest NOW, instead of next week. etc...
It will appear as an OPTION in the upgrade manager later. You don't have to upgrade to 17.2 from 17/.1.

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

Do you still have to spend a week trying to get the wireless driver installed/working ? with Mint17.2  or does it automatically load it up and become available as soon as it has
finshed installing Mint 17.2 on your hard drive ?

Re: Linux Mint 17.2 Released

I have no idea shutter, the wifi on MY laptops always works in Mint. Toshiba & IBM (or Levenoo or something like that)
However XP/W7 wouldn't see the network (ethernet) or the wifi without download (elsewhere) a driver, so ....
However the UPDATE will not remove anything, only update them to the latest versions.
