I've switched to Cinnamon from Mate for this release. Somethings are still needing fixed, like wine apps associations not being incorporated into the system, but there are workarounds.
Not sure if I will stay with it though, I found Mate very easy to use, Cinnamon takes a bit of tweaking, or maybe just exploring.
One good thing, I now have the embedded terminal back

I tried Cinnamon in a new partition and quite liked it, when I tried an in-situ upgrade (wipe / keep /home), I found I couldn't install wine, even though it worked fine in the other one, so renamed my home folder then installed again, moving over things as I need them.

I've never had any problems (but I've never tried VNC).

I wanted to love it with rolling updates etc, but after about 3 months I gave up.

From earlier posts it appears users will get the opportunity to upgrade to 17.2 through the update manager but there are some links to posts that provide instructions on how to update to 17.2
Must admit I am a bit puzzled about that, why would you do that if it can be done through the update manager instead of the terminal ?

It will appear as an OPTION in the upgrade manager later. You don't have to upgrade to 17.2 from 17/.1.

However XP/W7 wouldn't see the network (ethernet) or the wifi without download (elsewhere) a driver, so ....
However the UPDATE will not remove anything, only update them to the latest versions.
