Uninstalling KB2810009 and KB2817630 will correct the issue without a rollback - worked for me.
If you have an issue like me with the latest update, do a Google search & you'll find the above solution. Hope this helps.

There are other problems with this week's MS Office repairs. 4 of the repairs that I successfully installed on Patch Tuesday come up as still needing to be installed. I did so. The next Windows Update run says that the same repairs still need to be installed. etc. etc.

I had the same thing - rolled back using Acronis and now trying again with the Office 2003 patches but not the Office 2007 ones
The Word and Outlook 2003 worked ones OK but the Excel 2003 one didn't Security Update for Excel 2003 (KB2810048) so have removed that one and hidden the remaining three

Looks like Microsoft rushed the patch. A new one should be released shortly!

In the meantime...
You can hide the office 2007 updates and they will no longer be offered to you.
In Widows update right click on the relevant update and select "Hide Update"

I do not have any variety of M$ Office installed (being unwilling to fill M$ coffers more than I have to), I prefer LibreOffice which is just as good. Since the last Windows update I find that if I select a .dos file, I immediately get a large advert telling me to buy the latest M$O version in order to open the file and you cannot just shut it off. Luckily if I approach the same file from within LibreOffice I can open it and what I want with it. All a bit Big Brother-like to me.

yes you can - just associate Libre Office with the .dos extension
As a matter of interest which type of files have a .dos extension

I got rid of Office 2003 after becoming fed up with update issues.
I now use Libre Office.

I missed this news yesterday but today had two calls from clients where all Office file associations had been misdirected (in the case I have seen, to Notepad which has a blank orange icon on Windows 7).  System Restore should fix this temporarily but then you need to avoid re-installing the Office updates until Microsoft get their act together.

LibreOffice easily opens .dos (& .docx) text files directly as I said in my post, but I could do without M$O butting in! I guess that Strat is in the same boat.

With .doc and .docx files associated with Libre Office Writer I have no problems.

I have found that spreadsheets are now attracting intervention from M$, thankfully LibreO can cope but it is all a nuisance.
