Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

It appears to be harder to find laptops these days (without going to very high end) with screen resolutions of 1920x1080 even at 17.3". Most now seem to come at 1600x900 but the extra space is a must for SWMBO especially as she is used to my old Sony Viao. Unfortunately, that is beginning to seem a bit old now at 5 years although I still think it has a lot of life left in it yet.
Does anyone know why this trend to 1600x900?

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

Have a look at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution#Computer_monitors, paying attention to % usage column.
Note that something called HD+ (is that better than HD(?)) is 900 x 1600  Crazy
Whilst an entry of FHD (Full High Definition(?)) of 1080 x 1920 is much more widely used.
I expect it's a marketing ploy.
Is an external monitor feasible?

Yes - but not all the time as that will, obviously, reduce the portability of the laptop.

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

There are laptops which meet your spec- how big a screen do you want as Lenovo do some at reasonable prices http://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/laptops-netbooks/laptops/full+hd=features80000398/c80000398

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

Most of those are, again, at the high end Sad
She does want a 17" screen. Not sure any budget could go much beyond 600-700 squid, though. It doesn't have to be high-powered but it seems that the lowered powered ones get restricted by resolution Sad

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

To be honest I have already searched high and low with the above conclusions Sad
I was just wondering why the prevalence of 600x900 rather than 1920x1080 which, I am certain, was more available a few years ago.

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

You could get a 24" screen with a HDMI connection for £120.
I suspect 600 x 900 allow a tablet to claim that it is HD.

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

Try https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/laptop-computers/, in particular https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusV-17/ ; 17" 1080x1920 from £600.
Probably pretty similar options from dino pc as well.
I've just got a 15.6" Vortex (quite a bit more expensive) and I'm very well pleased so far.  Not very swish to look at, but good specs, and good keyboard/screen.

Re: Laptops with 1080 screen resolution

to answer your question about the lower resolution offered its all about price, to keep the package price down they use older kit that is no longer covered by licence like display adapters from 10+ years ago as international patent's were left to lapse as newer stuff was brought out and it was considered obsolete and thus not worth paying for again ....
hope you manage to find what your looking for though, I noticed when I was looking about a month ago there is a real lack of 17" + options on the market that fit my price bracket unlike a few years ago when I didn't need one ...
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you
