Laptop screen

Has anyone ever replaced a laptop screen ?
Plenty of info on youtube to show what's involved but do all screen replacements follow that pattern or could you come across a specific problem ?
Local computer shop advertises fitment of replacement screens from £99 plus vat. so is it worth having a go and is it possible to get a replacement screen that comes with a Guarantee if you fit it yourself ?
I Understand that a number of Laptop manufacturers get their screen from more than one source so there can be no guarantee of the quality.

It varies by make/model but essentially isn't very difficult though care is needed.
Often it's just the backlight inverter that goes, so unless you "know" the actual screen is faulty, have that checked first (it's high voltage!)

I have a netbook which suffers screen issues (odd colours / blackouts / colour inversion) since being dropped several times by wife / kids, I found that there's a flat ribbon connector that appears to connect to the back of the LCD by little more than self-adhesive force, once I had the screen surround and cover off I 'fixed' it by running my finger gently over the back of the connector to re-apply pressure to the contacts, it's been running fine for a couple of months now.

The issue is dead pixels.
Not a problem at present as there is just a total of 3 near one edge of the screen but if more appeared in or near the center and became a distraction I might have to change it.
There are a number of weird and wonderful ideas on how to repair dead pixels on various websites along with warnings it could make matters worse.
Annoying really as it was an expensive Leveno laptop only a few months old and hardly ever used. My two, four & five year old very cheap desktop monitors which get considerable use have not got a single dead pixel between them.
