Laptop no power

my son has a ACER v5-571 laptop , up until last night was perfect but now will not turn on at all ? it has a power light on when you plug charger in , but pressing power button  has no effect .
have taken battery pack out and cleaned the contacts , to no avail .
any ideas

My old Toshiba has done that a few times. In my case I know why. When I dismantled it I weakened the power ribbon cable connector under the keyboard. Pushed in well with a bit of sticky tape across it, it's fine now.
I would guess the power ribbon has slipped out a bit on yours?
On the Toshiba when the big power button wasn't working there was a couple of small "help" buttons underneath that continued to work booting to a Toshiba windows help page,
Any extra similar buttons on yours?

and Mr Google is not much help

Tried pressing the power on button & then F2 (or whatever it is to access the BIOS), if that appears, then try doing a reset of the BIOS and reboot and it might well work properly again.
I had an ASUS that did it, then I did a BIOS reset and all was well & good until the display went kaput.

At a guess, it's either the connector that goes to the motherboard that has worked loose (as already mentioned), or the motherboard has a flaw that would probably render it completely dead and requiring replacement, and from my experince of laptop repair, acers are great at randomly dying for no reason...
Hopefully it's something simple that can be sorted with a bit of screwdriver spinning, often the most annoying problems are the easiest repairs...

have found a friend with a same power lead so will give it a try later tonight , at lest i rule out the transformer on the charger .
If still no joy will try to disassemble it tomorrow

Will the laptop power up with the battery taken out ?

If the laptop won't power up with battery out and mains adapter plugged in then you either have a duff mains adapter or more likely a faulty power converter board inside the laptop.
Could be something as simple as the power jack on the main board has come loose (quite common) but often slightly more "terminal"

after following the video i found  1 ribbon cable soldering to motherboard has come off   
so the laptop is DEAD

Whip out the hard drive (data protection and all) and stick the laptop on ebay, someone else will enjoy having something to fix up I'm sure...
Even I don't attempt soldering on that small a scale...
