i have a friend with a laptop where the SSD is borked ,,,, But rather than buy a new SSD he has a external USB backup SSD .

Not having done this before , is it straightforward to install a OS on the external and from bios boot from the external ?Huh

Asus ROG Hero Vii Z97 , Intel i5 4690k ,ROG Asus Strix 1070,
samsung 850evo 250gig , WD black 2 TB . Asus Phoebus sound ,
16 gig Avexir ram 2400 , water cooling Corsair H100i gtx ,
Corsair 750HXI Psu , Phanteks Enthoo pro case .

Why not take the SSD out of its USB caddy and put it in the laptop?

ReedRichards , Cheers Thumbs_Up as i found out last night  Via a friend this is the way forward .

Not having a lot to do with laptops i was unaware this was possible
