Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

I Have a brand new laptop, UK model but it has u US keyboard, does it sound correct? Undecided
It is a Samsung a chronos 7 laptop model NP780Z5E- T01UK and noticed it does not have a uk layout keyboard, ie above the key [2] is the @ abovethe [3] is #, there is no £ only $, however when I type it does not match what the keys show, but matches what a UK layout should be!!!?Huh
Speaking to samsung support they gave me steps how to change the keyboard settings to either be a uk , or US internatiinal setup. If US is set typing matches the keys, but I dont get a £ availsble at all, set to UK and the keys dont match what it types and I dont get a $ but for things I do I need to type both these currencies ! They told me that the laptop is correct for a Uk model, ..... being a little frustrated as I paid £900 for it, I called the retailer who said they dont think it is right, it must be the wrong model, but aren't sure!!
Before they come back to me after the weekend I would like to know if anyone has this or any samsung laptop and wouldnt mind telling me if their uk model has the uk keyboard, or as with mine a US layout please? Or if anyone knows if this is common, I cant find any reviews mentioning it either.
Its odd to me,, Samsung told me any laptop manufactured outside uk have same non uk keyboard..... my vaio not made in uk has uk keyboard,  father has an acer, sister has an hp, all state made outside Uk yet have uk layout keys!
Is this something common in laptops or are they just telling me fibs! Huh
thank you to anyone whi can help me with this puzzle. Smiley

Utter rubbish!
I don't know about this specific model but I have never previously encountered a 'UK spec' laptop with a US keyboard (and probably 99% of laptops sold in UK are made outside UK - China / Taiwan etc.)

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

Who is your retailer?  who is his supplier?
This item obviously does not "conform" to UK standard keyboard layout, where the £ is above the 3 and the $ is above the 4 and the @ is two keys to the right of the L...
If your retailer is (could be) suspect, then so could his "supplier"... either way. a "drop of the hint" that you are going to trading standards if you don`t get a refund immediately.. ( sale of goods act... not fit for purpose... suspect counterfeit goods ).... etc... might help...

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

With my mac laptops the £ and $ are above the 3 and 4 respectively but the @ remains above the 2, this is how they have the British layout.
Samsung do seem to spinning a lot of drivel here, but if your only complaint is the keyboard layout there is nothing to stop you changing this within windows so the keys are mapped how you like them.
Obviously it doesn't help with the decals on the keys but might be worth trying.

I bought it through Debenhams, always a little hesitant buying from sites I dont know, i thought I would be choosing well?!
When they call after the weekend,  I'm now ready and prepared to put my foot down,  and insist they either rectify this, or refpund please!
kiddies will be using the laptop, theydont know where the keys should be if I change settings between US and Uk and if im having a 'blonde' moment ill probably forget.....!!! Crazy
itll be interesting to see what Debs' say about this, its my first exprrience of Samsung, can't say its a good one, once they start telling porkies, its hard to trust what they say!,,
Thanks again guys, for giving me the confidence to stand up to them!!! Angry

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

I assume you bought it from DebenhamsPlus? This site is actually run by EasyCom so you'll be dealing with them rather than Debenhams PLC as such.
Good luck and hope it gets sorted Smiley

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

Never pay for extended warranties.
If it' going to break, it will do so in the first few months.
Always pay by credit card, so both companies are liable.

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

I've just been looking at tge easy com website, and it has confused me. It states they supply 'white label laptops'.
I can understand white label applies to supermatket own products, that they use a company to make them for them and then label as if their own brand, but can this apply to my laptop, or am going bit crazy!
Will it mean that my samsung laptop is manufactured by someone else (ie easycom)  and then labelled by them, to be a samsung!
I guess im asking if possible my laptop wasnt made by samsung because I bought it from company specialising in white label laptops?
can anyone help me figure this out please, im confused! Crazy
is it ok to ask this within this topic, or do I need start a new one?

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

White label could mean anything. They could be returns with unopened boxes. I certainly don't think they are the same as the supermarket equivalent white label goods items.

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

Whatever you have found out, on their website. is useful background information.... when you bought the item, you were in a "contract" situation, where the seller offers goods with a description. and you as a buyer, rely on the seller`s description to decide if you want to enter into a contract to purchase...
seems to me, that you have been "mis-sold/misled" by the seller if you "thought", from their description of the goods at point of sale, that you were buying a genuine article, e.g. laptop made by Samsung.
If this is the case, then I would progress down the avenue of Trading Standards, if you have no direct result from fighting with the supplier for a refund, or replacement with a genuine Samsung laptop in accordance with the Trades Description Act... ...

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

Thanks peeps, for all the very helpful advice, u guys always seem to 'sort me out'!!! Wink
I ordered it over the phone and  he didnt mention anything about what I have since discovered, or i would have said no thank you!
I've now also read some awful reviews on how debs'plus deal with returns, fsults etc! So annoyed with myself I spent ages reviewing laptops, I saw the debenhams name and just presumed they would be ok, wont be making that mistake again on such an expensive purchase!!
I had an email earlier asking me to give them 24-48 hours to investigate my complaint, but I think after every tjing ive read, and all the invaluable advice im going to request a refund when they com bsck to me .....if they do!!
I think they have as suggested, completely missold me, and it is not fit for purchase. I'm going to be stern and say refund me, if they mess about, im going to tell them they can either refund or ill go to trading standards!!
I hate laptop shopping, I bought a new customised vaio direct from Sony in sept, when it arrived, the wireless was bad, eventually they admitted its a worldeide issue with the wireless adapters, and despite it being reported start july, they didnt know how to resolve it! after that I found pages and pages in Sony forum reporting identical fault!  Best bit was when the man from sony said if he'd told me before I bought it, I wouldnt have bought it.........!!!
anyway guy THANK YOU as always for your generosity in giving me not only your time, but your patience and eealth of knowledge and experience. Im now ready and prepared for any upcoming battle..., oh crikey!,!!!   Crazy

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

I own a Samsung Netbook.  It has a standard UK keyboard.  I also fix computers for a living and I do sometimes see computers where some major component has failed shortly beyond the warranty period.  But I don't think that on average you will spend £90 on repairing a computer that has gone wrong in the second and third year of its life so on average an extended warranty is profitable for the people who sell them rather than the people who buy them.
Having a US keyboard is inconvenient but not a disaster.  Might it be better to negotiate a partial refund rather than return it?

Re: Laptop Keyboard layout in UK models

Replacing a keyboard on a laptop is probably one of the easier things to do, if that is one of the options given to you by the seller.
