Laptop Battery Power

My "new" laptop (bought in late 200Cool is advising me that I need to replace my battery as , "although it is still able to charge, it is nearing the end of usable life"
 (aren`t we all ?  Roll eyes )
so I took it out to see what the part number was and the voltage and the rating...
Dell GW240 14.8v 28Wh..... and when I look on the net for a replacement, they give the rating in  mAh....
can someone please advise me what the equiv to 28Wh is in mAh? so I can get a bigger capacity one as a replacement?
Thanks

Re: Laptop Battery Power

http://batterylaptop123.over-blog.com/pages/how-to-conversion-battery-units-mah-and-wh-4631737.html

So -
mAh = 1000 * ( Wh /  V )
1892mAh = 1000 * ( 28 / 14.8 )

Which seems a little low, as the smallest 14.8V battery I could find was 2200mAh  Sad

Looks like a good deal, I bet a 'genuine' Dell battery is several times more expensive (with no more guarantee of performance or life-expectancy).

Re: Laptop Battery Power

No it won't,  in the unlikely event that it doesn't fit and is therefore not as advertised, then the eBay buyer is entitled to return the item for a full refund under the 'Buyer Protection Scheme".
In addition I am guessing that this battery was a 'Buy It Now' sale, in which case there are additional 'Distance Selling' regulations, where the item can  be returned if it is not satisfactory.
It would be more of a problem if the batteries were generic, and were not sold specifically to fit any particular laptop.
Laptop batteries on eBay are normally sold against a specific model, or list of laptop models, and then with additional electrical characteristics,
Something like -
    "Laptop battery to fit Dell GW240 14.8v 2600mAh"
So if it is not an exact fit, or is not electronically recognised by the specified laptop model, then the buyer is perfectly entitled to return the battery for a refund.

I have bought about four or five laptop replacement batteries now from eBay, and they have been EXACT replicas of the OEM part, other than minor wording differences on the label.
So far the only problem it have had is a battery that had worked perfectly for months, and then about two months after the warranty had expired, it just stopped dead.
All the other laptop batteries have worked as good as the original OEM part, and slowly degraded over time as you would expect of any rechargeable battery.

I did email the supplier with a copy of a pic of my battery, as there is another alternative that has an "extension" on it that looks as though it might make the battery stick out of the laptop case, (and indeed it does, but does make electrical contact apparently) also some suppliers state that the 11.1 volt version IS a replacement for the 14.8volt that I have, EXCEPT ONE, who specifically states on his Ebay advert (in red) that if you purchase the 11.1 volt version there "may be problems with the recognition", (or something like that)... so I stayed clear of the 11.1volt versions....
As Purleigh says, there is a lot of "buyer protection" now on ebay, and on the net, for "distant selling regs"... so not worried about that side...  Two or three other items I have bought went faulty shortly after purchase, and the suppliers gladly and quickly replace them when I emailed them and returned the item...
Thanks for the concerns Colin  Wink

Re: Laptop Battery Power

Which sellers are you using on EBay ? - as most of them seem to be based in China and have pretty poor feedback... Embarrassed
