KB971033

This seems a particularly sneaky update, I don't mind having to activate windows as such - but this seems to give them the ability to switch off your Windows 7 at will if it thinks you've tampered.
Who knows what'll set it off.

Might be best avoided for now.

Whenever I have to update Windows, I try to read the explanation of what's affected - if it's just a cut and paste job that says "this resolves an error that allows your machine to be attacked" or similar then it doesn't get applied.

Re: KB971033

ive got this update with no problems, ive nothing to hide,BTW you get a good explanation of what this update is and what it does, you can hide it, you can also remove this update, if it comes built into windows 7 with SP1 users will have no choice but to have this, it calls home every 90 days, i support this update, nothing wrong with microsoft wanting to catch all the scammers and also make windows secure for its more regular customers.

Why not get yourself a webcam connected to some monolithic organisation?
You could get yourself checked out for thought-crime etc every 90 days... Grin
