Re: Java and Win7

Have a look in Add Remove programs - it may already be installed in an earlier version. If so remove all versions and start again

This only happens in Vista, so I am going to assume you are using it. The reason for not working for vista is that the jre msi location has been moved recently from \\users\username\Appdata\Local\Sun\Java\… to \\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Low\… during some bug fix. I just found out that the "Low" folder in \\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\Low is automatically created for all other user accounts except the Built-in Administrator. Since the "Low" folder is not created in the code it failed to find the location for the Built-in Administrator.
The current workaround for Built-in administrator is to create the "Low" folder manually in \\users\username\AppData\Local\Temp. Then, run installer and it will work.

Re: Java and Win7

bad download?
id make sure theres no copies of java on the machine as OJ said...
then try and get the latest one..
also - if your on 64bit, install the 32bit version of java (as your browser, is 32 bit - unless you specifically state using 64, which i wouldnt recommend..)

Re: Java and Win7

Looking into the internet, it seems that you should disable and then enable Window:installer as that is the problem, but how the heck do you do it in Win 7 spent three days so far in the maze of control panel and cant find it.
And on the Java download page it doesnt ask you if you want 32 or 64 bit
And I have remove all traces of Java with REVO uninstaller

top one - as stated in brackets is 32 bit
second - as stated in brackets is 64 bit

Re: Java and Win7

your looking under solaris, not windows (which is above)
Solaris is another operating system, made by SUN Microsystems (people who make java) Smiley

Re: Java and Win7

Right - your using Firefox (which you didnt say before  Roll_eyes  -  Sun give different links dependant on browser Smiley )
if you click my link in IE, it specifies both.
in FF you can just go for the offline installer (the second link for windows, there both 32 bit unless you change it)
