You are going to need to give a different link as linking to the basket won't work

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

As it is customisable can you advise the following
Memory amount
Hard disk size
Unless there is an option for a TV tuner card you won't be able to watch TV

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

Minimum 1GB preferably 2GB as the graphics card also uses that memory
Hard disk size should be at least 160GB
I am not sure if the graphics supports all the Vista features such as Aeroglass

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

Of course, you wouldn't necessarily need all that memory if you didn't insist on Vista.
I run lot's of applications - occasionally simultaneously - on a 1GB PC (with a 256MB swap partition).
Current memory use is 420MB (but only FireFox, P2P, GUI currently active)- the rest is just resting.
Of course this isn't the bloat-world of Microsoft.
BTW I have:-
CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
Graphics:- Nvidea GeForce 7300 GS 512 MB
Disks:- 72GB SCSI + 250GB SATA (for backups etc).
It wasn't all that expensive - (about £800(?))

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

I think the op is looking for a "entry level" type laptop, with "basic" detail in the spec, but needs to have a little "extra" to cope with "hungry" applications. The budget is limited, therefore that is reflected in the basic spec.

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

evie,
I managed to get what I think is a great laptop, and it cost £359, take a look at your local tesco's store.
This is what i managed to get.http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-1098.aspx
The big surprise was the Nvidia graphics card that with the 2gigs of ram it comes with you can devote 128mb to (it is set to 64mb at default)
Hope this helps

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

Jim,  I think that is the one she was asking about !.... look at reply number 2 ! ! ....Methinks she is nervous of splashing out, and then finding it isn`t up to what she wanted...... but in my opinion, I think that one would do her a real treat..... (so long as she is careful when she does the ordering on DELL site, and does not get confused with the long "spec" questionaire...... )
When I bought my Dell, I opted for the basic offering, without backup, which comes as an extra and therefore adds to the price, but you can be caught out with things like that not being too obvious, and it doesn`t show until you get to the final page/price/pay now! so you have to go through the spec again. !
Edit:::: just had a quick look at the Tesco offering (as above) and that seems to be a tad better than the Dell.....
Includes 2gb RAM  and also a integrated webcam also, the software package that is pre-loaded means she will be able to do things immediately, without having to install ....
and it is Vista Premium as opposed to Basic for the Dell.

Re: Is this a good pc to buy?

@pierre,  The first part of my post (before the edit) refers to the Dell
Th e second part referst to the (tesco) HP.
Re-read the post and the preceding posts too, to get the general idea ! ! !
