A Neighbour has recently been given a first generation ipad but is less than impressed with it as much of the current aps seem to need OS6 and this has OS5 and from what he can gather it cannot be upgraded to OS6.
Anyway, what he was asking me is if there is anyway a ipad can be wiped and a new OS installed such as android ?
Personally my advice would be to sell the thing on e-bay and put the money towards a new tablet but thought I would seek the opinion of those on this forum as this is a topic I know nothing about.

No!
But, you can Jailbreak it! That will open some doors for non-Apple approved Apps but it has its own risks - security for one!
Google 'Jailbreak' and you'll find out.

Thanks for that, some quite interesting stuff there.
Should my neighbour have a go at that and experience problems could he reinstall the original Apple software ?
On second thoughts it might be better to advise him it can't be done rather that end up trying to sort out any problems that might arise.
Thanks again
