Yes Strat, I have tried switching off PC and router and rebooting, but no change.  Have scanned with an up to date AV/malware program (Zonealarm) Nothing showed up.
will try in 'Safemode' next.

No not tried Firefox  yet.  I am posting here useing a laptop via same wireless router and same Plusnet account as rouge PC.

Looked at your set-up instuctions and my LAN is set correct but still no go!

I have now loaded Firefox (thanks OldJim) via my laptop and I can access internet OK.
Fine, but what of my IE, I'd still like to fix it, any more ideas?

Try going to: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com Windows Update and Update Internet Explorer thay may fix it.
