Internet Activity Display / Meter

Having recently started using the Kaspersky firewall there is one tiny feature that I am missing from previous firewalls... Namely the little meter that sits in your systray showing when your pc is up and downloading to the internet.
I know that the Kaspersky firewall has a window that will give you details but I just want something that sits in the tray and indicates what is going on.
Do any of you know of a stand alone utility that will do this?

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

Would DU Meter not do this?
I've not tried it, but heard rumours that it's pretty good.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

Assuming you are using a router, turn on "Show icon in notification area when connected" in the properties of your Ethernet connection.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

Hi Barry
I am sure it would and a lot more but to be honest just a little Zone Alarm style meter with 5 bars would do the trick and I don't really want to pay $25 for it.
I just find it useful to spot when there is unexpected activity going on.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

I think the Freeware version of NetLimiter Monitor has this feature, but as I've taken it off my PC I couldn't be sure.

But I could be confusing it with NetMeter, which i also tried (and removed).
Both are free so worth a try.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

I have NetMeter, if it is showing anything, because it's ADSL traffic against a 100MB network interface it looks like it doesn't register. The network interface icon I suggested above DOES clearly show when there is any network activity.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

netmeter seems to work fine for me -- does exactly what God wants.
you do need to let it know which interface to monitor though (load it, right click icon, options, network interface)
limitation is that it doesn't monitor just internet traffic but all network traffic on the pc.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

Which version of NetMeter are you using - I can't see any indication of activity in the tray icon.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

I'm on 1.1.3
I've just found an choice in the options - Use dynamic gauges (which I had selected) and Use old static icons. The second gives up and down arrows which go red/green.

Re: Internet Activity Display / Meter

Ah! I thought NetMeter had stopped being developed years ago with the beta version I'm running.
So I've downloaded the latest
