Re: Intel vs AMD CPUs?

Re my earlier post Has no one a comment?

No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

Going back to the original question

You won't need a separate graphics card so you want a reasonable built in GPU and all the Intel ones have that (I assume AMD have as well although I haven't checked) So the fundamental questions I would consider are

Do you want to run anything earlier than Win 10 as the latest CPU's from AMD and Intel won't

Do you want as quiet a machine as possible - check reported sound levels with included coolers

Look at CPU temperatures with the default cooler - low is better

@Oldjim Not sure what you are saying about earlier than Win10.

Something less than a squadron of jets getting ready for take off, I think!Wink

Re: Intel vs AMD CPUs?

OK - I looked on that site & it doesn't say what the latest CPU is.

So I tried a AMD FX 8350 Black Edition 4.0 GHz processor & there are no problems with running W7 on it.
Perhaps there is a special upgrade for the wealthy?

All builtin graphics cards are universally poor. A moderate Graphics card can be quite cheap (depending on usage) and won't need special power connections. It also allows you to upgrade without smashing up your motherboard etc.

Re: Intel vs AMD CPUs?

My main computer motherboard has a built-in Intel graphic chip. It also has an AMD Radeon 7850 video card installed in one of the 2 GPU slots. Absolutely no need to smash the motherboard to upgrade. Just add a second card for SLI/Crossfire or replace the 7850 with another card.

And the built in GPU can be disabled in BIOS if need be.

Re: Intel vs AMD CPUs?

Oh!

That's OK then.

CPU firmware etc is open source and already part of the Linux kernel.

So only Windows users have fight to install drivers. Smiley

Never heard of Linux not working properly on any PC, with the exception of some distros not supporting some 32 bit CPU's.

Doesn't that qualify as "not working properly" then? lol

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
