Are you sure, @rongtw? A quick read of the DM article say X86, so maybe X64 systems aren't affected?

That's where the performance regression is likely to come from

@jab1 Almost every Intel processor manufactured over the last decade contains a major security flaw that could be exploited in severe attacks. If that isn’t bad enough, patching the issue might slow down the performance of a CPU by up to 35 percent.

OK @rongtw - I stand corrected.
I'll still be interested to see what, if anything happens to performance, some of the articles seem to give themselves plenty of 'wriggle-room' 5-30% is a wide spectrum.
Edit to add: I know there's no detail about this threat, but I wonder how close to your machine an attacker will have to get, or how they would?

That's for a different Intel flaw (though I suppose if you're affected by one it's likely you'll be affected by t'other)

I always buy AMD.
They are cheaper, faster and apparently more secure!

Could be all chips Now including AMD , ARM
The issue was originally linked to a flaw only in Intel's chips, but the firm said this was "incorrect".

As I understand it the patch will affect all chips irrespective of whether they are Intel, AMD or whatever.
