Intel Identity Protection Technology - how does it work

Just noticed this in the Firefox plugins since updating to an i5 cpu and loading the motherboard device drivers
What does it do - in simple terms
Is it only valid on Win 8 and higher
Which sites or accounts use it

Re: Intel Identity Protection Technology - how does it work

WOW this is what intel says Jim
Intel® Identity Protection Technology provides a hardware root of trust, proof of a unique PC, to websites, financial institutions, and network services that it is NOT malware logging into an account. While a username and password shared with other sites may be compromised by a data breach at another site, the shared secret between the PC and each site is unique and is used to generate a one time password providing an additional factor at each login that is valid for only 30 seconds making it difficult for malware to steal and reuse.

Maybe not completely stuffed, assuming you've got a mobile Smiley

If you want to use the authentication but you aren't at your regular computer, some Web sites offer an SMS option in which a code can be sent to a customer's phone.
