Imgburn - a warning

Needed to install my normal burning software as the Win 10 included is flaming useless

Despite my best efforts it also installed two unwanted pieces of software and changed the Firefox start page to Yahoo

Fortunately all easily sorted but a nuisance nonetheless

Re: Imgburn - a warning

Quite a lot of free software has unwanted extras so care should be taken when installing.

At least Imgburn was up front when I tried it and easy enough to not install the extra

have a look at Unchecky

This software recently appeared in Computer Active's "Named and Shamed" section for the reasons given above

I unticked that one - it was the other two which I couldn't stop

Re: Imgburn - a warning

It also depends on where you get the software.

Where possible always download from the creators website, software distribution sites often include their own unwanted extras.

Re: Imgburn - a warning

I agree and that is why I downloaded from the Imgburn site

The reference above led me to check here https://www.pressreader.com/uk/computer-active-uk/20170607/281797103960637 and it was only the imgburn mirror which included the unwanted rubbishj

Re: Imgburn - a warning

I just looked at the imgburn site and selected from their own server and was met with the following:

Capture.JPG

Easy for some to miss the 'Click here to customize' options.

The next page had a tick which could be deselected for the next piece of software.

@Browni

I did, and a big thank you for that. Thumbs_Up

I didn't see the screen that @Mav posted, maybe because my default browser is Pale Moon x64?Huh

Re: Imgburn - a warning

@Browni Does the browser matter as my screen-shot was from running the exe file?

Re: Imgburn - a warning

@Mav on your screenshot it says that IE & FF will be reconfigured to use Yahoo, my using another browser probably threw it off.

Re: Imgburn - a warning

@Browni I understand that but what about the Ultimate Protection bit? That doesn't seem to be browser dependant?

Looks like I would be totally [-Censored-], though, as I have all three browsers mentioned installed (IE, FF and Chrome):Rolleyes:Knuppel

Re: Imgburn - a warning

Unfortunately Imgburn is one that bucks the trend of safer downloading direct from website. A long while back when I last installed it (or updated) I went with the direct link as per usual but that resulted in "Immunet protect" quarantining the installer as soon as it had been downloaded, so went to the alternate download sites (unfortunately I don't remember which turned out safe, could've been Softpedia or maybe Major Geeks - all back in 2013).
That's RPM to you!!
