IE11 for Windows 7 Automatic Update - Is it a good idea

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/11/07/ie11_for_windows_7_final/
As the only actual users who have it at the present are those with Win 8.1 I would be interested in comments

As 10 broke my W7 I would hope for better things with 11 Undecided

IE10 here on W7x64, no problems. IE11 on W8.1 similarly fine.

Downloaded and attempted an install of 11 64bit and it failed with the message box shown in the link.
Did a roll-back and everything is fine back with 9 but I use Waterfox anyway.
Skype won't work for me with anything higher than 9.

Re: IE11 for Windows 7 Automatic Update - Is it a good idea

I tried Win 8.1 for a week and IE 11 seemed pretty good, a lot better then IE 10 which seems to only open 80% of web pages on my PC, (the other 20% just time out and maybe after 3 or 4 attempts they finally open). I would go to IE 11 in a shot over IE 10 but Microsoft in their wisdom have deemed Win 8 users are not entitled to a IE 11 upgrade. I know some will say " well why don't you just upgrade to the free win 8.1" .I personally don't like operating system upgrades, I only want fresh installs. Maybe this is a bit OTT but it is how I do things to keep my PC as fast as the first day I installed it and not cluttered with old OS files.
If I was still using Win 7, I would definitely try IE 11. I don't like the auto upgrade bit though, I have my update settings to let me choose whether to  download and install, so I can uncheck anything I don't want and hide it so it never shows again, unless I choose to restore hidden updates. So unless people have install updates automatically, I can't see how they can force it on you.

Installed and seems very snappy - first impressions is that it is faster than Firefox although it may be a side effect of the reboot (I normally only reboot when there is a Windows update - I use sleep instead)

Re: IE11 for Windows 7 Automatic Update - Is it a good idea

I've installed it off Windows Update and again it doesn't work, opening and immediately closing.
Interestingly Skype, which auto-starts with windows works ok but if I shut down and restart Skype it fails to work properly.
I guess my ultimate solution is a Windows trash and reinstall, something I hate but it cleans out the accumulated crud.

I've installed it on the laptop and it seems OK. I rarely use it preferring FF but it is useful at times.
If all remains stable then I'll install on main PC.

Re: IE11 for Windows 7 Automatic Update - Is it a good idea

After several weeks of no issues on the laptop I installed IE11 on my PC.
After a reboot FF 25.0.1 failed to start except in Safe Mode. If I turned off hardware acceleration then it started without issue.
FF is now updating so the latest version may have resolved this issue.
Edit: FF26 and Hardware acceleration back on and all seems ok now.

I've been using IE11 for 10 days now (on two PCs) with no problems at all.
