I want an app that will guide me when walking in cities or towns

Can anyone recommend an app for an android phone which will guide you around unfamiliar towns etc when walking as opposed to driving.

Not sure if this is what you're looking for (don't know if there's any town specific apps) but I always use google maps - links in with searches for places, offers walking directions and can also be used to follow yourself around if you turn the GPS on (assuming your phone has GPS).

AFAIK it doesn't necessarily need GPS as it can often find an approximate position based on 'visible' wi-fi access points.

If you're running on Android, you can get the "Trip Advisor" app for the appropriate city. I did that when I went to Rome.

I used this in New York and it was fantastic. Found some nice little eateries.
One benefit is that it can load the full map for offline use before you move away from your wi-fi and/or 3G data.
