Re: I am now waiting for a bunch of questions from novice users who are on IE8

Thank you for the clarification.
I have used two browsers for several years. But I was wondering if things would change and, in future, Microsoft would only allow me to run one browser. As this choice had been forced on them, if I opted to use Firefox as my default browser, would Microsoft delete IE from my system and block me reinstalling it.
That was the reason for my question.

Sadly it's the usual "clear as mud" info from MS, but no you won't be forced to do anything or limit your choices.

I don't buy that it is confusing.
The second paragraph on the page linked to in the opening post is pretty clear IMO:
Quote
First, a little background. In December, the European Commission and Microsoft arrived at a resolution of a number of long-standing competition law issues. Microsoft made a legally binding commitment that PC manufacturers and users will continue to be able to install any browser on Windows, to make any browser the default browser, and to turn access to Internet Explorer on or off. In addition, Microsoft agreed to use Windows Update to provide a browser choice screen to Windows users in Europe who are running Internet Explorer as their default browser. This browser choice screen will present a list of browsers, with links to learn more about them and install them. The design and operation of this choice screen was worked out in the course of extensive discussions with the Commission and is reflected in the commitment that Microsoft made. Users who get the choice screen will be free to choose any browser or stick with the browser they have, as they prefer

HPsauce and pierre_pierre
Thank you both for your replies and help.
Unfortunately, things which are perfectly clear to younger people are not necessarily as clear to we 78 year olds. With some of us, our minds are not as active as they once were and we need things explained clearly.
I'm not 'getting at' James_G in this posting.
Cheers
