How to easily create a GNOME Style panel layout in KDE

Hehe for those Ubuntu users who don't like the new Unity interface (when it lands later next week?)  - here is a review of a script to make Kde look like Gnome  Cheesy

Re: How to easily create a GNOME Style panel layout in KDE

I think any change comes as a shock. I've used KDE for a while and KDE3 -> KDE4 was a major change and it really took until KDE 4.5 before all the previous functionality reappeared and the (very) rough edges got smoothed out.
The real beauty though is that we have a choice whereas those on Windows don't.

Re: How to easily create a GNOME Style panel layout in KDE

I'm expecting UNITY to be a complete disaster on my PC.
3 Screens running on
2 Different Models of video cards

  • 1 running OpenGL

  • 1 not running OpenGL

GNOME gets confused enough, but I'm expecting UNITY to be a total failure.

No one is forced to upgrade.
However, how does Firefox 4 fit into this?

Kinda are, if you want to continue to enjoy support, then you need to be running recent versions.

Re: How to easily create a GNOME Style panel layout in KDE

Ubuntu was the first distro I tried some years ago and I never got on with it. I much prefer KDE distros such as MEPIS or PCLOS.
What is it about Gnome that you guys like so much?

No particular theme forced on you; simple layout ; most applications that are Gnome-specific are quite good.
KDE applications also work - although the only one in the 'K' suite that I use, (AFAIK is k3b).

Gnome, clean and simple.
KDE applications, just seem clunky and it's always struck me the KDE team would have been better off using best of bread applications rather than attempting to write their own KOffice case in point.

It's the nature of Desktop Environments that they strive to provide a level of functionality with applications that share a consistent look & feel; hence the reason KDE, GNOME and Xfce all have their own file manager, text editor, image viewer, web browser et al.
I dare say neither Konqueror (KDE), Epiphany (GNOME), nor Midori (Xfce) would be your idea of 'best of bread' (sic) web browser.
And given that KDE was the first 'free' DE for Linux it's hardly surprising it went its own way.
If GNOME Office or LibreOffice better suits your need, that's great.
If KOffice better suits someone else, that's great too.
