You really have been spending to much time on the DM website.

Its very basic advice that will give you a better than out the box experience at best. It will not give 'the best display possible'

Re: How to Calibrate your TV to get the best possible Display

It did prompt me to check what settings I had and make some improvements including turning off Overscan.
I will go over the settings again when I have more time with the manual in hand.

It's not the display I have problems with it's the sound, pity they don't give advice about that other than to buy a soundbar.

I darn't attempt to check the settings here ATM as I would end up having an interesting discussion with more than one female & as I am the only male here, I would be outvoted in less than a millisecond Tongue

Re: How to Calibrate your TV to get the best possible Display

I would recommend downloading the test patterns/manual and following the basic instructions from it at
http://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-display-calibration/948496-avs-hd-709-blu-ray-mp4-calibration.html
It will give better results than TRs advice (though ideally you need blue filters or 'THX' glasses for best results)
Or you could go the whole hog and get something like a Spyder 4 and use the HCFR software, which will give the best results possible outside of getting a pro calibration

Or you could just play around with the settings till you are happy with what you see Wink
For domestic use some basic guidance is all that is needed. I would hazard a guess that most users wouldn't necessarily notice any marked difference anyway.

You could but that misses the point, and you may as not bother  Smiley

They will, and they probably won't like the look of the picture either at least initially, especially if they've been running in and got used to the'Dynamic' modes with contrast, brightness cranked up and all the garbage picture processing/enhancements enabled

Have they taken into consideration that,
Not everyone would share their eyesight
What looks sharp / vibrant etc to them, wont be seen exactly the same by everybody

Re: How to Calibrate your TV to get the best possible Display

I ran through the procedure on my LED backlit TV just now.
The One Show started to look dull and lifeless so I put it back to default.

Agreed. Everything had different sound levels. Poking around in TV set up though - Panasonic - found an option - Equalise sound input over channels. Very impressed, can switch between tv, freesat box, dvs player without having to reach for remotes.
Might be worth a look to see if your tv has something similar.
