Yes you can use a web cam, what do you want to use it for? Voip?? Skype?? all supported.
If you just want to capture video etc try cheese.

Re: How Can I Use A Webcam On Gloria?

Don't use pidgin so can't help with it, try cheese and if it sees the camera then pidgin should, just a matter of selecting it on the config. (I assume)
Update:-
just checked the web page:-
Quote
Voice and Video (Microphone and Webcam) Support ¶
Does Pidgin support webcams (video)? ¶
Yes, but only for XMPP/GMail.
Does Pidgin support MSN video chat? ¶
Not currently. It is planned. See below.
Does Pidgin support microphones (voice)? ¶
Yes, but only for XMPP/GMail/GTalk.
Does Pidgin support libjingle? ¶
Yes, both GMail and GTalk implementations should work.
How do I configure my microphone/webcam? ¶
Currently, the command-line gstreamer-properties program is used. This is only available on GNOME-based systems. On other systems, Pidgin makes its best guess as to which device to use. A plugin is planned to support this functionality on other systems.

So video will only work with GTalk, I assume you both have GTalk accounts?
Or you could both use skype which I know works with webcams on Gloria.

If it helps...
The built-in webcam works fine with Skype on my AA1 running Ubuntu Jaunty. AFAIK Linux Mint Gloria is based on Ubuntu Jaunty and so webcams ought to work  I guess.

Look.
It took me 2 years to get the CSC webcams turned off so people stopped spying on me.
And now you want to use a webcam on me?  There's no hiding from you people!!!

I believe aMSN supports video and chat (and audio with a bit of effort) - not likely to improve the quality of video, though Undecided
