Holiday Shutdown?

I am off on a two week holiday soon I just wondered if I should switch off my computer,somebody told me once that the router likes to be on at all times just a bit worried leaving the power on while I am away.

switch them both off but it would be better to restart the router during the day to get the best speeds

I frequently go away on holiday for two weeks at a time and always switch off my router.    Never had any speed issues when I switch it back on.

I am always amazed at the number of people who leave everything connected, PC,Router 24/7/365
Surely this is totally unnecessary and just a waste of hard earned electricity.
I switch off everything before retiring .
I even know of several people near me who also leave on their TV,Digibox and even  lights all around the house all night.
what a waste of energy!
