Ok, I follow that - just one question - if I carry out the changes will it affect internet access on other laptop, tv etc. Sorry for being pedantic but am a bit unsure of what I am doing (being crinkly).

You need to select each band in turn on your devices and use whichever works best.

Just read post detailing Router change - as an 'old git' who is a bit unsure on making these changes do I change the wireless SSID box from PLUSNET-WXF8 to PLUSNET-WXF8-5Ghz (thats in addition to changing the 2.4GHz from YES to NO)

Yes. If you then do a search on your device for available networks, providing the device is 5GHz capable, you will see both listed. Try each in turn and use the best.
