Help: Looking for a media catalogue program

I have a large (ish) collection of dvd's/blu-ray's etc with different media on them, avi/mkv/mp3 etc.
I am looking for a media catalogue program to read in the media give it a number, and then be able to search the results to find on which media the files are on.
I have tried cdcat - hangs with blu-ray.
several others with various results
Anybody suggest one.

@Shutter, now why didn't I think of that - Oh I DID!  Shocked Tried most of them on the list.
@gtowen, tried to run it but didn't like it at all.
Trying Gnome Catalog at the mo, seems simple and easy.

Re: Help: Looking for a media catalogue program

How about making a spreadsheet on Open Office?  that way, you can name your own columns, and what you want to put in them by way of description/information
You could have seperate "pages" for different genre of music/film/video/books
You can keep it in alphapbetical order, and you can insert rows as and when you want.... if you are careful, you can do this in the alphabetical sense, or you can just add them into the first ( alphabetical list ) and then goto Data on the top tool bar, and then " sort "...

Re: Help: Looking for a media catalogue program

Given the number of them it is just not feasible to enter the data manually.
I am looking for something to scan the media and import the data into a db automatically.

Re: Help: Looking for a media catalogue program

mediainfo gives loads of technical details - you could write selected stuff to a SQL database
and run simple queries to extract information.

Re: Help: Looking for a media catalogue program

Its not the detail I am after, I just want to be able to search for a particular item by name or part, like looking for some video by entering Shaun or Sheep.
Gnome-catalog seems to have given up on me, after working fine yesterday it will not save any db's or add any items.
Now to find something else. Cry

Re: Help: Looking for a media catalogue program

Another one you could try is Simple Movie Catalog ;
http://smoviecat.sourceforge.net/
It's a cli utility but is quite configurable and easy to edit the config file to your own needs.
or JDiskCat, which might suit your needs
