Hackers target Microsoft Windows XP support system

Quote
Hi-tech criminals are "escalating" attacks on an unpatched bug in the Windows XP help and support system.
Microsoft said it had seen more than 10,000 machines hit by the attack that, so far, it has not found a fix for.

Looks like a good time to change from Windows to Ubuntu !  Wink

Re: Hackers target Microsoft Windows XP support system

I didn't know that Windows XP has a help and support system.
What is the appropriate phone number to ring?

It would be useful.
I will have just one laptop with XP on it when W7 goes to University in a few months...
However, the XP laptop faces having Linux installed because XP on 512MBytes is so slow and clunky.
If M$ actually supported their products, I'm sure it would make even more wonga.

They do, its called the Retail version, not the OEM version that comes with your machine - which is supposed to be supported by the manufacturer of your computer.  And they make a lot more wonga if they manage to sell one of these retail versions!

Oh Cry
Looks like Steve is right - support from Windows is not of any use/interest to me.

Re: Hackers target Microsoft Windows XP support system

Since this thread has been revived, it's worth noting that Microsoft issued a patch for this security hole last Tuesday.
