I have been trying to set up my webspace to view images etc on line.
I downloaded the Nvu program to help with this and started off witth the index.html file which, as a trial I just published with some simple text.
All works well and I can view this through my http:/ webspace address
I then tried some other pages which I published into the same directory, again just containing simple text and with file names such as page2.html
Nvu confirmed they had been published successfully but when I check via the browse button I get the 404 error which I also get when I type in the address to the browser, though the files are there and viewable via the FTP route
I'm sure I've done something silly but I can't seem to work out what.
Any clues?

Can you do a screen print of the ftp file information as it may be that we can spot what is wrong

Many thanks for the rapid response.
Don't think its a case sensitive issue as I've made sure I used all lower case
However, there is one thing which may be relevant.
I originally played about with my webspace a few months ago and uploaded a few images into the HTdocs folder. (can't remember how)
If I type in my frtp address to the web browser I get screenprint 1 (see attached pdf)
If I click on htdocs I get screenprint 2 which shows the original files in there, now deleted apart from index.html
If I click on index it opens up to display the current contents. If I click on the deleted files I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
If I open the open the FTP site in windows explorer I get screenprint 3 which shows the correct contents of htdocs
I can also open the photos subfolder and get screenprint 4
I can double click on any of the files and display the contents correctly
Does this reveal the cause of my problem?

A) you have got upper and lower case in the names
B)you should not have spaces in the file names use underscore
C) get rid of the PDF, as it shows too much
d)http://www.ban88888888is.plus.com/page4.html works OK

Many thanks for all your help
My fundamental error was not adding the file extension into the browser.
I still have a v minor problem in that I still get the 404 error when I click the browse button in Nvu (having published the page) even though I can view the file on the http browser
Anyway, I'm a happy Easter bunny so thanks again to both of you
