Graphic cards to a budget!

Anyone suggest a good graphic card in the £80-£150 price bracket? Must be AGP. The 6600GT was excellent value when I bought it but starting to look dated (and possibly knackered).

I'd also like a recommendation.
An AGP card supporting dual monitors at at least 1280X1024, 32 bit colour.
Performance is not a concern as I don't do any gaming.
Price is an issue - too much and I'll carry on using the extra PCI card that only has enough memory to support 16 bit colour.

ok in Mepis linux but does not have enough memory to run Frozen Bubble
in Beryl....PCI card...

looks like GeForce8500GT would be a good choice.

I have the X1650 pro 512 and it performs superbly, running every game I've tried on high performance with full monitor resolution.

I bought one of these a couple of months back
http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/products/components/msi-nx7600gs-td512z
AGP and completely silent. Vista gives it a 4.2 rating.

Hi, I also have this card.  I did initially have a problem with the Catalyst Control Centre.... which required me to install Microsoft .NET framework to run it....
I overcame the problems by uninstalling the .NET framework and  I think I also uninstalled the CCC too...  Chris, did you have any problem along these lines?
After all this hassle, I thought I'd stick with nvidia in the future...  but since uninstalling all that garb (except the driver) it's actually run better for me....
(boy, I wish I knew what I was doing sometimes...)

Re: Graphic cards to a budget!

Nope, never had that problem, I installed the CCC direct from the website though, didn't rely on the disk as they aren't usually the most up to date versions.

Re: Graphic cards to a budget!

Just a word of warning.
The best card you can buy in your budget is the Radeon 1950 pro but the 12v line power demand is much higher than your present card. I am looking at this but I don't want to buy a new power supply (I only have 28A at 12V).

I concur... I got one of these for a customer recently and he only paid £59 all in. It was a superb card, and I seethed with jealousy when I saw the sugary sweetness of C&C 3 in all it's glory.

Re: Graphic cards to a budget!

BFG geForce 7800GS. I bought one last month after exhaustive research. I don't think there's a faster AGP card available, and cos it's BFG it's a) already overclocked and b) comes with a lifetime guarantee. I love it. It laughed at F.E.A.R on full settings, which is pretty much what I was after.
I know the link is eBuyer, but they are cheap and nobody else has the BFG model in stock, especially for that price.
Hope this helps,
