Grabit... or not, maybe...

Guys
so I follow the instructions to connect to news.plus.net (port 119, no user/pwd, no ssl) to get my news started.
Try to 'Refresh Grouplist'.  Nope - 'Communication error'.
Try with my account and password.  Nope - '481 Acess Denied...'.
With / without SSL.. no go.
Any hints please?
AndyF.

Well it works fine with newsleecher, although very slow! (Are you a Plusnet customer?)

Re: Grabit... or not, maybe...

Can you post your IP address (mask the last part). It may be that you are on a new IP range that hasn't been added to the ranges allowed to access the server.
(We've recently seen a similar problem with some users not being able to use the Webmail servers properly)

@thecodeface
Can you confirm that you are trying to access the Plusnet news server when connected via a Plusnet connection - because if you are not it won't work.

Re: Grabit... or not, maybe...

Well that was my thought jelv. He only posted once, so I reckon he is not a Plusnet customer. We'll see if he responds to our observations.

To sign up to this forum you need to be a Plusnet customer. It may be that he's just on a non-Plusnet connection at the moment though.

Re: Grabit... or not, maybe...

Morning Guys
thanks for the feedback.  Yes I am a PlusNet customer.
Trying to connect from work, definitely not a PlusNet connection.
Our provider is York Data Services so I guess I would appear behind 188.65.97.xxx?Huh
Thanks
AndyF.
ps recommend any news reader (preferably non-chargeable...)?

Re: Grabit... or not, maybe...

You cannot access the Plusnet news server from work, only from your home connection. Access is restricted to Plusnet IPs.
