Google Maps now shows my actual address

This is because of the mobile setting it so my question is how do I change it

I searched for 'Oldjim' on Google Maps but it could not find you.

There is usually some sort of location awareness setting that you need to turn off to stop your phone reporting exactly where it is to other applications.  But it is a feature that is intended to be useful when you are out and about, indeed some well-known apps rely on it.

first because it isn't related to my username on here

second because it isn't shared

I suppose it could be via the IP address as the location was set using my wifi connection

if you mean google maps on your laptop/PC then it knows where you are because google knows where your WIFI SSID is.
it's simply using that to guess where you laptop/PC is, and guessing pretty well.

if it's your mobile, then of course it'll know where you are due to the GPS chip.

change what?
change the fact that google knows the location of your WIFI network?
not aware of a way to do that. changing your router would solve it though.
if i had enough time i could drive every street in the UK and eventually get the location of your WIFI network.

change that your mobile knows where you are?
disable location services.

I want Google Maps to open in a specified location - without a dedicated link - it used to be possible but it looks like the location tracking using the GPS in the mobile can't be overridden so it permanently links to the IP Address

hang on, you need to be clear how you are accessing maps.
in one instance you are saying mobile, then other you says "dedicated link".
if you are using mobile then surely you're using the maps app and no "dedicated link" would ever be used.

and IP address has nothing to do with maps knowing where you are.
if it's your mobile device then it's using GPS to locate you.
if it's your laptop/PC then it's using the mac address of your router/WIFI to know where you are (based on crowd sourcing of WIFI networks).

On Android, there is a setting "allow location access". (or similar not got my phone on me)
Go to the settings/apps and what ever you want to stop. click on permissions and untick the allow location access.

Clicked on that link, know the location well. Will be down there in Sept time again. 😉

allow location is a good thing on phone . its easy to locate if lost also its easy to locate your child

but dont think is that close for your PC as it dont show correct position
