Google Earth is something I use a lot and it would be useful if I could get it to work, not sure if anyone can offer me any helpful advice on this problem, I Have looked on various forums and there are various opinions on this subject.
Found this useful site but it didn't solve the problem for me,

Rather than a black screen, I get -

After that if I press OK, sometimes I get a black window, other times it will exit, and other times Google Earth will load and operate normally but not render any of the earth's surface detail - but will show boundaries, roads, places, etc.
The graphics chipset is Intel 945GM x86/MMX/SSE2, which has 3D and shader model 2.0 support.
I have tried installing the latest Linux graphics drivers from Intel, but that mode no difference.
I think the only real solution, is to find and install a previous version of Google Earth, but I've not found a copy yet.

I currently have a slightly older Google Earth, running perfectly on an identical laptop, with "Maverick Meerkat" 10.10.

Quote from: gleneagles I am having problems getting Google Earth to run on Linux Mint 16, everything downloads and runs ok for the first few seconds and then the program just disappears from the screen,
Have you tried launching GE from a terminal to see what errors it throws up?

No idea how you do that, despite using Mint most of the time I rarely use or know how touse the terminal other than for a few basic commands unless I copy and paste commands from others.

Guess I will have to learn to live without it unless I can get an earlier version that is known to work.
Annoying because I did have an earlier version of Google Earth running on Mint 12 or 13 a year or so ago on another computer.

Have you tried https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.8382004,-2.3278149,6z
It gives you the maps functionality, anyway.
