Gnome 3.8 - guess what!

It is back to looking like a Gnome 2 desktop, finally gotten some sense and dropped the silly "shell" look.

Wonder if they will take back the crown from Mate & Cinnamon or if they have made too many "enemy's" over the abortion that was the shell?

Re: Gnome 3.8 - guess what!

GNOME dropped the old "fallback mode", which ran the old gnome-panel. It's been replaced with the "classic mode". Classic mode is still the gnome-shell component, still JavaScript and OpenGL powered.
The newer GNOME Shell user experience is still the default.

Re: Gnome 3.8 - guess what!

From what I read there, 3.8 WILL drop the shell and return to the good old desktop. Not just for the backup.

Try the release notes rather than a press release.

I have, as usual, built and installed GNOME 3.8, but haven't even bothered to try GNOME Shell, classic mode or otherwise. Fortunately gedit and gnome terminal haven't been re-designed yet.
