Gadgets

This is slightly strange      win7 x 64  windows Gadgets , i only have the clock & calendar on my desktop , but for some reason every now and again when i start up they dont show ,even right click on desktop wont bring them back ??  i have to shut down and restart.
its not a major problem ,,, but a annoying one  any ideas ?

MMM  interesting Strat  but i like to see a clock & calendar on my desktop 
will see if there is any alternatives

I can't find a definitive answer but is the security gadget issue specifically if the sidebar is used or all gadgets anyway?
I have not got the sidebar activated but I do have the weather gadget on the desktop for two locations. I will add that this is the gadget pre-installed with W7 and not downloaded.

I'm sure just the other day I read a suggestion that Gadgets might be coming back in Windows 9.

Start > Run > sidebar.exe
That should see you right without restarting

7up tried that , didnt work , also checked MSCONFIG services , Whats Running , sys internals .
what i eventually did was add remove progs/ windows features removed sidebar , restart then enable sidebar

Indeed I have also kept mine but I use the same ones that I've had for years and no new ones. Clock, cpu / ram monitor, local weather, clipboard manager and a calendar.

A tip to re-enable the sidebar
Run
%systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\vbscript.dll
