Fritzbox OS 6.30

It seems that 6.30 is available to most of the Fritzbox range now so anyone using it, any issues?

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

They're pretty good if you use all the features* (like routing phonecalls via VOIP and/or access number providers to avoid high call charges**).

*features vary between models, not all have telephony functions.
** Not so useful if you have no friends sorry - correction don't use the phone much***.  Tongue

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

it was the 7390 and 7490 i was looking at.
they seem to be feature rich, but in terms of doing the basics like stable and fast DSL/FTTC connection and WIFI coverage/quality etc ?

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

VDSL on 7390 VERY stable for me - slightly slower that the BT HG612 modem but not enough to worry me, Wi-Fi works well for me too 2.4 & 5Ghz throughout the house (though I've not directly compared with other 'premium' kit) and I don't have the biggest house around.

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

Difficult to give a completely accurate figure as I don't like swapping back and forth and I changed to the 7390 at a time when my sync was gradually dropping (assumed to be the usual 'crosstalk' issue), possibly lost 3Mb/s (out of originally 65-70), have since regained some due to full G.INP compatibility

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

3Mbps drop is quite a bit really.
of course, whether that is the router or other factors would be hard to say.

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

Since I downgraded to 40/20 from 80/20 because I really didn't need all the available bandwidth it is absolutely no consequence to me - the only time I'd know I was on a 'slow' fibre option is by doing a speedtest, the Fritzbox certainly handles plenty of concurrent connections (wife, 2 teenagers + self - phones, tablets, PCs, games consoles, BT IPOffice phone (for work, separate to the VOIP function of the Fritzbox)).
There was a method to make the FritzBox work with Plusnet TV too by editing a saved config file (mine does) but the later firmware might not be configurable for this (but upgrading from older firmware already configured has worked OK so far.
Gains in stability and reliable dual band wi-fi, ability to handle loads of connections, guest network properly implemented, parental control functions + telephone functions for me far outweigh a possible 5% sync loss (even if I was still using all of my sync)

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

I too found 7390 slightly slower than a HG612, so I use it with the Hg612, VOIP very good and easy to setup. Wifi range and speed also vg

Re: Fritzbox OS 6.30

I'm also on fibre but have the poor man's Fritzbox, the 3390.
I've found it extremely reliable and although I'm not that near my cabinet - 12db downstream attenuation I sync at 79997/19999 without any dropouts.
I also use Sonos on my wi-fi rather than the Sonos mesh without any problems.
Firmware 6.30 is supposed to improve VDSL operability so I'm interested if anyone is using it.
