Re: Free photshop software

Just as a point of interest you asked for free photoshop and as photoshop is adobe it suggests you are asking for pirated software which is not allowed on the forums.
I can see you were actually asking for free photo editing software
I have modified your title etc to reflect what you actually want so there is no confusion that you werent asking for pirated software, Please choose your words more carefully

Thanks Samuria.  Of course .  I've responded to your PM.  I probably also refer to vacuum cleaners as Hoovers, RCDs as Powerbreakers, and 101 other branded items in generic terms.  I'll try to be more careful  Undecided

Re: Free photo editing software

I wonder what coarse your son is doing at Uni? My son went to Uni and my other to college and both got software dirt cheap on student licenses so its worth asking at uni.
It depends on the coarse Gimp and other GNU software if great but if your son is seeking a job in graphics all employers ask for Photoshop experiance or for web design Dreamweaver. If its just part of the coarse and not the main core of the course then Gimp is great but photoshop CS4 is fantastic software and should be for the price.
Check for student software from Adobe here

Re: Free photo editing software

John,
Your son could also have a look at the Adobe student store here. It's cheap for Adobe products i.e. 155 for CS4 on Mac compared to 550 for the commercial version.

Is that in £?
If so. I wouldn't call it "cheap".  Cheesy

Notice the 'for Adobe products' , which are a complete rip off...

...and annoyingly buggy in my experience. I do remember a couple of (few?) months ago reading about a supposedly very good piece of photo-editing software for 'normal' people, which didn't cost too much money. Only problem is, I can't find out what it's called or anything now... if I manage to find anything about it I'll post back.

It's called The Gimp - Linux, with Mac and Windows versions available - all free of charge.

No it's not Jeremy; GIMP has already been mentioned twice in this thread and I know beyond a shadow of a doubt it's not what I'm thinking of.

Thanks for all the replies.  He's looked at GIMP (and will have another go with it)  I'll pass on the other suggestions.
