I never had this sounds a bit strange, I do as Oldjim said to be on the safe side.
You can also try spybot that gets rid of dodgy things
http://www.safer-networking.org/dl/
also check if anything is in the process list that should not be crlt+alt+del > task manager.
hope you sort the problum.

Also, make sure you are running the latest versions of Flash player http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and Java (if you use Java) http://www.java.com/en/ . Both installations will try to foist 'extras' onto your computer which you should uncheck the boxes to refuse.

If I download malwarebytes from Major Geeks will it be safe website because I have found in the past some of the anti virus downloads come with chrome and these silly search engines which can be difficult to uninstall.I tried to download Advanced Security System I took out the ticks for chrome and other bits but I still got them.

You might like to get "Absolute Uninstaller".... this is a really good one to get rid of Chrome, and other stuff that you forgot to (un)check the boxes when you were installing those other progs....

I have never had any problems with Major Geeks provided you can find the link on the download page that gives you the download you want as opposed to a link to something else being peddled.
