I am trying to reach the eBID website, but any link to the ebid website comes up with : Forbidden. You don't have permission to access/on this server. Apache/1.3.34 Server at www.ebid.net Port 80. I have registered yesterday on the same site, and it was working yesterday. What's the problem? Why can't I reach the eBid website anymore? Is the problem on my side or theirs?
That seems to be a message directly from their Apache server, which suggests it is not a firewall or similar issue. How exactly are you trying to access it, just typing www.ebid.net into a browser or have you maybe bookmarked a link to something within the site? Could you be, for example, trying to access an out of date session link from when you signed up?
I did try to log in again tonight, (google search, then click on link) but to no avail. Then I've realised that I could log in to the eBid forums, and on there I've found out that there are a few who have the same problems. Some said it has to do with IE6 (which I have) and to download firefox, but others have had the same problems with Firefox and IE7. It happened in the last two weeks (Maybe because many sellers from Ebay are moving to other venues like eBid after the changes implemented by Ebay). So the problem might not be entirely on my side. It has been suggested that there might be some problems with cookies. I did delete my cookies and try to log in again on the main site but to no avail. I will try firefox and see if it's working. I am using IE 6 and get the same forbidden message from their server. I tried www.ebid.co.uk and was redirected to www.ebid.net/ which said I don't have permission to access / on the server. I'm wondering if the problem is in the trailing slash which indicates the directory rather than the index file. [Edit] I have just tried Fire fox from my Linux machine and didn't have a problem so it does look as though it is something peculiar to IE6.
Hi there, Have you checked your proxy settings in your internet options control panel? They can be found under Internet Options / Connections Tab / LAN Settings Make sure everything in there is unticked, apply the changes, restart Internet Explorer and then try again.
It seems that it can happen with any of the browsers, at random. With some it works, with others it doesn't. There must be a setting somewhere that don't agree with their server. Some have that setting and others don't. I haven't had time to download firefox yet, but I did try what Jameseh suggested, and it doesn't make any difference. Thanks anyway.
I have just downloaded and tried firefox, and like pd it works with firefox but not with IE6. I wish I could understand why adiewoo's IE6 works but not mine........
I have just tried www.ebid.net with IE 6 get the same forbidden message from their server. Then tried http://ebid.net and didn't have a problem so it does look as though their is a problem with there server. You need to take out the 3 (WWW)
I've just tried this and it works for me too, now. How strange! [Edit] Seems I spoke too soon. I do get the front page of ebid but as soon as I click on the uk flag which tries to go to http://uk.ebid.net the Forbidden message re-appears.
