Depends I suppose on how much RAM you have. There's 2GB on the PC (it came with 256kb!) but only 512kb on the laptop. Seems to relate to the number of tabs opened and closed since it appears for each one FF remembers some of the info, checking about:memory.

There's an option in TabMixPlus to specify the maximum number of closed tabs to remember. It defaults to 10, I wonder if that is a Firefox default? Reducing that might help as for closed tabs it remembers the history so you can do backs.

But could you not only do "backs" on open tabs? It seems to remember closed ones too.

I can't remember if you can re-open closed tabs without TabMixPlus - with it you can and then do backs.

There's a "Recently Closed Tabs" list - but I suspect it only opens the last instance on that tab not including the history - I'll have to try. Just done a shutdown so clear at present.

I've just disabled TabMixPlus to try this. When you reopen a closed tab the back button works on that page.

Regardless of how much RAM you have, a 32bit Firefox is eventually going to be constrained by its 32bit address space, so it will only be able to use a maximum of 2 or 4 GB.

I currently have a Firefox resident memory size of 200MB (out of a total of 600MB used).
So only 1400MB free memory.
No swap storage used.
